Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin addressed the participants of the competition with welcoming speech:

“You are already definitely prepared for the first stage of your upcoming career,” Mishustin noted. – Mathematics is unique precisely in that everyone who approaches it as seriously as possible gives the opportunity to reveal their creative abilities. I have been doing mathematics for many years and I know the passion with which you strive to reach a solution. And believe me, many companies, universities and laboratories are closely monitoring how and who will show themselves in the coming days. ”

A rich program was prepared for the participants of the Olympiad — musical numbers, performances of honorary guests, a parade of teams and even a laser show.

Dr Geoff Smith, IMO Board president, addressed all teams from the stage: “We are looking forward to the start of this competition, so it is a great honor for me to open the 62nd International Mathematical Olympiad 2021.” Traditionally, Dr Geoff Smith marked the start of the Olympiad with a hooter in the vuvuzela.

At the Opening Ceremony of the Olympiad, the participants were congratulated by the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov and rector of Herzen University Sergey Bogdanov.

In conclusion the participants of the Russian National team took a solemn oath, in which they promised to be honest and comply with the rules of the Olympiad.

The participants of MMO 21 have two whole competitive days ahead, in which they will have to demonstrate all their knowledge to achieve high results.

We wish good luck to each team!
